Who was Mother St. Mary?
Henrietta Leforestier D'Osseville was born at Rouen in
France on 19th April 1803. She had received from her infancy the imprint
of a deep faith and a particular fidelity to the Virgin Mary.
She often prayed at the ancient Marian Shrine of La
Delivrande in Normandy.
There, on 3rd August 1826 her young sister was
miraculously cured.
Her father the count D'Osseville declared;
"I shall only die happy if a pious work is to
remain at La Delivrande as a perpetual living ex-voto in gratitude for
what I owe to God."
The realisation of that desire was to come precisely from
his daughter Henrietta, and the perpetual living ex-voto was to be and at
La Delivrande was born the welcome, the love, and the education of
orphans. But how many difficulties were to confront
Henrietta, who had become Sister St. Mary! All were to be overcome by the
power which the Virgin of La Delivrande was to infuse into her. |
