Our Governors

Croydon Local Authority and the Archdiocese of Southwark felt it necessary to disband the school’s Governing Board on 22 June 2020.  The Governing Board has been replaced by an Interim Executive Board (IEB) to take over the management of the school.  An IEB is a small body, typically smaller than a full governing body, appointed by the Local Authority and Archdiocese and endorsed by the Regional Schools Commissioner to work in a school that is judged to be in urgent need of improvement.  The IEB would like to acknowledge the time and commitment that the former governing board extended to the school and to thank all those involved for their dedication to the role.

The IEB fulfills all functions of a governing body and will conduct the school in a way that ensures rapid improvement and promotes high standards of educational achievement.

The IEB is composed of three members:

Pat Barber      Pat is a National Leader of Governance.  Pat was previously School Business Manager of a primary school, now retired.  She is Chair of Governors at St Matthew Academy, Co-Chair at St Catherine’s, Chair at Our Lady and St Phillip Neri Primary and St Mary Magdalen Primary Schools; Foundation Governor at Bonus Pastor Catholic College

Janet Nelms   Janet is a National Leader of Governance, currently Chair of Governors of a Catholic Primary School and Chair of the Bromley Catholic Schools Umbrella Trust. A former secondary school head teacher for 11 years, Janet has also been a School Improvement Partner and continues to work as an external adviser for Head Teacher Performance Review

Mark Hannon Mark is a National Leader of Education.  Mark is Headteacher of St Fidelis Catholic Primary School, Bexley.  He is also a Foundation Governor at St John’s Catholic Comprehensive, Gravesend.

The purpose of the board is to ensure that all students at Virgo Fidelis receive a great Catholic education, and that leadership, staffing, finances and premises are all aligned to enable every student to benefit from this.

All members of the IEB look forward to working together with the senior leadership team to ensure all students at Virgo Fidelis receive a great Catholic education.
