Entry Requirements:    

Students show an enthusiasm for dance and have practical experience in this area. Those interested will be required to audition and undergo an interview prior to acceptance on the course.

Course Content:           

The course is made up of the following elements:

Performance;

good studio practice the technical nature of dance skills the expressive nature of dance skills factors which influence the achievement of high quality dancing.

Choreography;

The process of creating choreography choreographic structure constituent features of a dance.

Appreciation:

analysis and interpretation of dances the historical and social context of dances in depth study of a set professional dance work compared and contrasted with four others.

Assessment Method:   

Written paper 1 hour 20%

Practical examination set study 20%

Coursework performance 20%

Choreography 40%

Progression:                

Students who progress to GCE A Level often decide to continue into Performing Art / Dance via BTEC, Degree or Diplomas. Dance is an excellent subject for personal enhancement and many students enter the teaching profession.
