Spanish is introduced to the top streams from Year 7. Our Spanish curriculum:

Year 7
  • Say one’s name and age. Say the town/neighbour where you live.
  •  Greetings. Days of the week.
  • Months of the year.
  • Numbers up to 15
  • Numbers up to 30.
  • Introduction to colours, pets.
  • Some adjectives.
  • Introducing concept of masculine and feminine in Spanish words.
  • Basic family vocabulary and relationships.
  • How to say you like something.
  • School subjects. Applying adjectives to school subjects. 
  • Basic items of food and drink.

Year 8

  • Introducing myself / greetings/ parts of the day.
  • Where I live and neighbouring countries
  • Basic likes and dislikes, colours, my stationery and my classroom
  • Numbers up to 30 and alphabet

  • Saying what someone else likes or dislikes.
  • Describing past holidays. Expressing opinions about past events. Giving more details about your holidays.
  • Learning about Spanish-speaking countries.
  • Mealtimes. Shopping for food.
  • Eating at a restaurant: ordering food and drink. Traditional Spanish food/dishes.  Talking about a past meal.
  • Clothes. School uniform.
  • Different types of shops and what they sell.
  • Body parts. How to say something is hurting. Describing symptoms.
  • Going to the pharmacy and getting remedies.
  • Healthy living and lifestyle changes.
