International Women's Day at Virgo Fidelis: March 8th

We had several events planned to coincide with International Women's Day at Virgo Fidelis. Marta Righetti from Bromley and Croydon Women’s Aid came in to collect a cheque of £51.04. Virgo Fidelis Pupils had been fundraising for this important organisation.  Woman’s Aid encompasses support for young women and families without recourse to public funds, women with additional needs, EEA nationals, resettlement services as well as training and awareness and prevention work in schools.

In addition, Former pupil Abi Thomas of Croydon Community Against Trafficking (CCAT) led a discussion about modern-day slavery with Year 11 pupils. Abi shared her own story of slavery to bring home the message that trafficking can happen to anyone, anywhere. CCAT is a local, voluntary group that campaigns to end the enslavement of people in our community who are held captive by traffickers.

Mrs Hilary Meyer – New Head teacher of Virgo Fidelis Convent Senior School

Mrs Hilary Meyer has been appointed as the Head of Virgo Fidelis Convent Senior School with effect from June 2018. She replaces Ms Jocelyn Lewis who was Interim Head from September 2017 following the retirement of Sister Bernadette in July 2017 after many years of service.

Over the remainder of this term Mrs Meyer will spend time getting to know our school, liaising with our Senior Leadership Team, staff, governors, pupils and other members of our wider school community.

This is an exciting time for our school. In our 170th year and with a new Head at the helm, we continue working towards academic, pastoral and sporting excellence all in the name of God.

We wish Mrs Meyer every success in her new role and I am sure that you will warmly welcome her to our school and community.

Femi Oresanya (Chair of Board of Governors)
