Physical Education

Within the context of the Physical Education Curriculum at Virgo Fidelis, sport is used to promote a positive attitude towards health, safety and well being, not only for their time at school but also for life.

At KS3 & KS4 pupils are give the opportunity to engage in health promoting physical activity They are taught how to prepare for particular activities and how to recover afterwards.  They are also taught the short term and long-term effects of exercise and the role of exercise in establishing and maintaining health.

In Years 7, 8 and 9 girls take part in swimming, netball, basketball, hockey, soccer, athletics, rounders and tennis.  Various outdoor activities are offered across all years as well as the opportunity to study Martial Arts as an extra curriculum activity.  The foundation for the GCSE course is provided in Year 9 for the development of skilled academic excellence.

At KS4 the curriculum builds on KS3 and underpins GCSE.  Pupils are taught advanced techniques, advanced strategies and increasingly complex and technically demanding performances.  The pupils are now credited with greater responsibility.

At KS4 the girls continue with the sports they have participated in at KS3, but have the opportunity through a carousel system to specialise.

Clubs such as hockey, dance, netball, soccer, rounders athletics, basketball and martial arts are available to all pupils.

The school has an excellent sporting tradition and consistently performs well in all local competitions such as netball, dance, athletics and basketball. (The school has been a current league champion).  The sporting success has led to many pupils qualifying for both regional and national trials in sports.  We currently have two pupils who play basketball for South East England and many who compete for Surrey in athletics.

In the Sixth Form off site activities such as ice-skating, fitness, swimming and aerobics are timetabled. The school offers a wide range of extra curricular activities including netball, basketball, athletics, rounders, cricket, soccer, hockey and tennis First Aid courses will also be offered at both, KS3 and KS4.  GCSE PE will be offered in the Sixth Form.
