Although
you will be spending less time in class, you will be
expected to take far greater responsibility for your own
learning and progress. There will be many assignments to
be completed and, as a general indication, you will need
to devote approximately 4/5 hours of independent study
per week to each subject at AS/A2 level. Your subject
tutors will give you detailed advice relating to your
specific subjects.
Most students find Virgo Fidelis a relaxed and happy
environment. The curriculum is varied and affords each
student a wide choice. In addition to your academic
subjects, there is an extensive range of enrichment
activities (e.g. school magazine, debating society,
business enterprise, sports, community service, choir
etc.) in which you are invited to participate.
The
Religious Studies Department also organises a special
programme (approximately 3 days a year) which is led by
a team of specialists and encourages you to reflect on
your role within the community and to consider a range
of religious and social issues. These sessions are
obligatory.
We have
a very strong tutorial system and you will be part of a
Tutor Group of around 20 students that meets weekly.
Additionally, you will have regular scheduled tutorials
with your Form Tutor. These are positive sessions to
monitor progress, set targets and help support you both
academically and personally.
Careers
guidance will be offered throughout your time in the
Sixth Form by your Form Tutor, the Careers/UCAS
Co-ordinator and the Connexions Advisor. You will be
encouraged to find out about higher education
opportunities and future career prospects.
